In België alleen al zijn er meer dan een half miljoen mensen met een zeldzame ziekte. Together with Eds.Vlaanderen, UZ Gent organised the first symposium about symptomatic hypermobility in Flanders on the 24th of Februari.
There were talks given by Prof.dr. Fransiska Malfait, Dr. Marijn Marijn Vis, Dr, Ruth Van der Looven, Prof. Dr. Mark Scheper (PT, PhD), Dr. Griet Brusselmans, Dr. Stefanie Hödl, Dr.Emile Janssen , Dr.Inge De Wandele, Hanne De Schacht, Paul Sercu, Prof.Veerle Foulon and Nathalie Schelpe. The symposium was fully booked and a big success with regard to the subject matter. More info (in Dutch) can be found on www.eds.vlaanderen. Marie Coussens successfully defended her PhD entitled ‘Muscle and bone parameters in individuals with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder and Osteogenesis imperfecta’ on October 11th, supervised by Prof. Dr. Patrick Calders, Prof. Dr. Fransiska Malfait, and Dr. Lies Rombaut. Congratulations Dr. Coussens!
Marlies Colman successfully defended her PhD entitled ‘Unexplored clinical and molecular consequences of the Ehlers-Danlos syndromes’ on September 27th, supervised by Prof. Dr. Fransiska Malfait, Dr. Delfien Syx and Prof. Dr. Jessica Van Oosterwijck. Congratulations Dr. Colman! Marlies will continue her training to become a rheumatologist.

Our team will be presenting at The Ehlers Danlos Society about Genetically Defined EDS: Strategies & Solutions for Unmet Needs. This conference takes place in Ghent from on the 30th and 31st of August.
Our team will be presenting at the Collagen Gordon Research Seminar, where Delfien is chair, and at the Collagen Gordon Research Conference. This takes place from the 8th till the 14th of July at the Colby-Sawyer College in New Hampshire, USA.
